Bring your rod and reel to the 20th Annual Children’s Fishing Derby on June 24. Sponsored by the Wildside Bass Club and the Martin’s Pond Association, this annual event is a favorite with all our young anglers! Children ages 3-16 can enter–registration begins at 8am. Bring your own rod, bait, and bucket. The first 75 registrants present will receive a free hat–and all participants will get a free lunch. Trophies and prizes will be awarded, and a good time will
Our eagle scout candidate has planted the trees and is now going to do some pruning of the area tomorrow at noon. Arborist Marc Fournier is coming to give pointers on what are invasives and how to prune. If anyone from the neighborhood would like to work for an hour or two please look for them at the pumping station area on Lakeside Boulevard. Bring some snips if you have them.

The Haunted Hornet Halloween event October 15 will not be held at Clarke Park–it will be at the Batchelder School in the center of town. Shuttles will run from the parking at the Middle/High school. Watch the Friends of Hornet Productions site for more details!
Larry, Janet and Mike had a great time at the Apple Festival yesterday. Kids had a lot of fun learning about what a watershed is by playing with our Enviroscapes model. Lots of folks came by to visit and “talk pond stuff.”

Martins Pond Association is delighted to announce that Halloween festivities will take place again in Clarke Park this October. Friends of Hornet Productions will present Haunted Hornet Halloween on Saturday October 15th. Friends of Hornet Productions is the booster organization focused on supporting and promoting the performing, visual and technical arts at the North Reading Middle School. This year’s fishing derby included 66 kids from 11 towns. Volunteers from Martins Pond Association and Wildside Bass Club made it a great success as always! A great time was had by all.
